Soak and Save!

Ever struggled with what to do with old plastic foundation or plastic frames? Because the cells become filled with old cocoon material, all propolised down and polished by the house bees, they are nearly impossible to clean up before re-waxing for use.

So most beekeepers just trash them, and none of us feels good about adding even more plastic to the landfills.

Enter Jeff Willard, who has an excellent YouTube video on how to easily clean old plastic foundation in a solution of water, 1 c. Dawn dishwashing liquid and 2 c. bleach. The foundation can then be power-washed right down to bare plastic, no cocoon material left at all.

Clean ’em up, paint on a nice thick layer of beeswax, and your foundation is back in business!

Even better, this method renders the foundation disease free. No worries now about re-using that plastic.
